Elevate the Environment

Clean, care, love, repeat!

Each day air pollution, climate change, greenhouse gases, and so much more threaten our environment. Further, with technology advancing constantly, many people are staying inside and living less active lifestyles. It is time to get the community clean, active, and connected again, and your club can do that with this project! Obviously, one club can’t fix climate change, but you can help out your community and be a powerful advocate for environmental issues! Any action, big or small, makes a difference. Whether it's cleaning up trash in parks or painting park benches to promote personal activity, you will be contributing to the health of your community!

STEPS

1. Contact! Email your community center and let them know of your initiative. Be sure to lay out a list of the activities you will complete; picking up trash, painting park benches, creating signs about throwing away trash/recycling, building bird houses etc. Sometimes there are legal issues with changing park property, so make sure to get permission! Email ahead of time so you can work out any issues. As always, feel free to CC Let’s Dream’s email should they inquire for more information!

2. Create a sign up! Have members sign up on sign up genius or a google form for designated service project slots. You can also have them sign up for supplies that will be needed, like paint, nails, trash bags, etc. Be sure to vary what you do within your park! Not everyone is a great painter, and that’s okay!

3. Elevate the environment! Club leaders must arrive early to the park to be present for all the shifts of your members and to provide assistance. Bring water also! It can get very hot in the summer, so be sure members remain hydrated while being outdoors. It is also recommended you bring signs to help pedestrians avoid sitting or altering painted benches. Lastly, have fun with this! Because this is also outside, it is an open environment for members to bond with each other safely.

4. Take Pictures! We want to see what your club is doing for the environment and would love photos for our website! You also will need pictures of your members to validate their hours, so don’t forget this crucial step.

5. Clean up! Just as you came to the park to prevent littering, don’t leave your trash behind! Gather all supplies and leave the park cleaner than what it was when you came.

6. Fill out the Volunteer Form! Get volunteer hours based on the pictures submitted.
