LGBTQ+ Community facing Workplace Discrimination

Pride Barriers in the Workplace

FIGHT FOR THE RIGHT TO BE SEEN AS EQUALS IN THE WORKPLACE

Focus: LGBTQ+ Community

Take influential action by speaking directly to people who have the ability to guide law making: your state's officials

This Campaign:

This campaign highlights the issues and inequalities the LGBTQ+ community faces in the workplace and publicizes to state officials who can help make a change.

PROBLEM:

Gay and trans individuals can be fired from their job on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity in many states as of today. This is a huge representation of inequality as regardless of job performance or ability, a person can lose their job if their boss finds out about and disagrees with their identity. This lack of protections have many individuals living in fear, all to make a living.

SOLUTION:

While 20 states and Washington, D.C., have passed non-discrimination laws, more than half of the states across the country have not — making life not only difficult but dangerous for LGBTQ Americans in many parts of the US. Lets talk to state officials firsthand to voice out our opinions.

STEPS

  1. Step 1: Highlight the problem, gather your resources, and do research. To write an influential letter/email, it is important to have all your opinions and thoughts backed up by factual information.

  2. Step 2: Construct the letter/email. Make sure to stay formal and give respect to the person you are writing to so they are willing to be on your side. You can mention that you are from the Let's Dream organization, a student led activist platform.

Remember that you can ask for help, suggestions, or twist these campaigns themselves by talking to an officer from DoE on discord
