Firearm Safety for Families
PREVENT GUN VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS BY IMPLEMENTING FIREARM SAFETY
Focus: Gun Violence
PROBLEM:
Did you know that about a third of U.S. homes with children have guns? And about 4.6 million kids live with unlocked, loaded guns. Having firearms inside homes that are not properly secured, significantly increases the risk of school shootings.
SOLUTION:
Create a gun regulation project to prevent gun violence. Hold a presentation directed towards parents educating them on the proper way to handle and store guns safely.
STEPS
1. Plan! Decide how your presentation will play out. Here are a few things to consider:
a. Will it be a virtual or in-person presentation (due to Covid regulations)?
b. What topics will you be discussing?
- first talk to them about the rise of school shootings over the past years and
how homes with firearms increase this risk significantly
- educate them ways they can prevent their children from accessing any
firearm
- you can give a list of places to properly place their guns to ensure no
children have access to them (ex: place in a locked safe and making sure they
don't know the code)
2. Publicize!
a. Make flyers or post on social media about your upcoming presentation to
encourage many parents to attend!
3. Hold the presentation
! After all the preparations, you can finally teach others about
bullying!
4. Always feel free to ask for help, suggestions, or twist these campaigns yourselves by
talking to an officer from DoE on discord!
5. Fill out the Volunteer Form! Get volunteer hours based on the pictures submitted.
