Justice, Not Just Us

Let's prove the rights women have in the workplace!

It would be obvious to say that COVID-19 has produced some severe problems in the workplace. People have been increasingly worried about their family’s health and finances. Women in particular have been negatively impacted. Women—especially women of color—are more likely to have been laid off or furloughed during the COVID-19 crisis, stalling their careers and jeopardizing their financial security. The pandemic has intensified challenges that women already faced. At the beginning of 2020, the representation of women in corporate America was trending in the right direction, as representation in the C-suite grew from 17 to 21 percent. Women remained dramatically underrepresented—particularly women of color—but the numbers were slowly improving. However, the “broken rung” is still a barrier. Women continued to lose ground at the first step up to manager. They remained significantly outnumbered in entry-level management at the beginning of 2020—they held just 38 percent of manager-level positions, while men held 62 percent. But together we can show what women are capable of. If women leaders leave the workforce, women at all levels could lose their most powerful allies and champions, which we can’t let happen.

STEPS

1. Organize! Get together with your group and decide how you will be completing this campaign. You can either do it together or each person can do it separately.

2. Create! Your post or poster should include the following:

• A statistical image (graphs), demographic, etc. showing equality that women face in the workplace

• Why is this an injustice? How can we make a change?

• Why is this change needed?

3. Post! Post your creation on social media platforms and print to post around school, libraries, etc. (with permission). Make sure to use the hashtag #JusticeNotJustUs

4. Validate Hours! The hours for this depends on how you split the campaign. Keep track of the amount of time you do this campaign if you are all doing it together, or if you are doing it separately, one hour can be awarded for a post. You can also create more than one poster/post as well!

5. Fill out the Volunteer Form! Get volunteer hours based on the pictures submitted.
