Create or donate masks to the homeless!
With the surge in COVID-19 cases, homeless shelters, along with other places serving vulnerable populations, are facing increasing COVID-19 safety challenges. COVID-19 spreads mainly from person to person through respiratory droplets. Respiratory droplets travel into the air when you cough, sneeze, talk, shout, or sing. These droplets can then land in the mouths or noses of people who are near you or they may breathe these droplets in. Masks are a simple barrier to help prevent your respiratory droplets from reaching others. Studies show that masks reduce the spray of droplets when worn over the nose and mouth. In turn, more businesses and even entire counties are asking people to wear face masks when they're in public to reduce the risk of Covid spreading. However, this may become a problem for the homeless, who are one the most vulnerable people to the virus, since they can not afford to buy masks. As a community, we should help out those who are less fortunate and don’t have access to certain things. One way to help with this problem is through this campaign where you will be able to make/buy masks and donate them to the homeless.
STEPS
1. Plan! Will you be making the masks yourselves or buying them?
NOTE: If you make the masks yourselves, you will get more hours than buying them.
If you are making the masks, what materials will you need to buy?
2. Create! If you are planning on making the masks, search up videos/websites on how to make them!
3. Reach out! Email your local charity and let them know your initiative. Be sure to let them know why you desire to begin this campaign. If they agree to the campaign, ask them for their availability so you know when you can drop off the mask donations.
4. Fill out the Volunteer Form! Get volunteer hours based on the pictures submitted.
