Let’s promote our fellow local farms!
Our food systems have drastically changed in recent times. Arguably for better and for worse. While smaller-scale farms are rapidly disappearing despite the fact that they provide healthy local food. Eating locally grown, seasonal produce can be a better choice for the environment, and for your health, too. Most of the time, choosing produce grown at local farms, meaning within a 100 mile radius, can be the greener choice. We can promote this by motivating people to consider buying more locally grown produce, and shop at a farmers’ market near where you live. If you are not sure where to find one, you can do so on this website: https://www.ams.usda.gov/local-food-directories/farmersmarkets. Let’s protect these farms!
STEPS
1. Organize! Decide how you will be going through with this campaign. The main question here is whether you will make multiple posts as a club together or if everyone would be making their own posts.
2. Create! There are multiple ways you can do this. You can create a post for social media or create posters to put around indoors in your community. This can be schools, libraries, stores, etc. Just make sure you have permission. No matter what you choose, this is what it should generally include:
A local farm to promote
Why it is important to have local farms and some benefits
If on social media, post with a link: https://www.ams.usda.gov/local-food-directories/farmersmarkets
3. Post! If doing on social media, post and share with family and friends. Use the hashtag #LetsDreamNoFarmsNoFood
4. Validate hours! If you are completing as a group, make sure to note down everyone's contributions and participation. If each member is doing this by themselves, half an hour can be awarded for each post.
5. Fill out the Volunteer Form! Get volunteer hours based on the pictures submitted.
