FIGHT BACK AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Domestic abuse is very prevalent in our society and is oftentimes overlooked and under-reported. No one wants to feel powerless within their own home, and due to the pandemic, many women have found themselves trapped in dangerous situations. 1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse within their lifetime, and for those that speak up and leave these situations, there are centers available to assist them. It’s time to stand up against domestic abuse and support these women with acts of kindness. Sometimes it’s the little things that matter, and in this campaign, you will be able to donate purses, makeup, perfume, and more to show your support and provide positivity through their recovery.

This isn’t a typical garage sale, it’s also an opportunity to have your members sell their personal works such as paintings, pottery, sewed items, or anything they enjoy making in their pastimes that is suitable to sell to your community.

STEPS

1.Decide what you will be donating and/or doing within the center of abuse. Make a plan of action to get members to donate goods and participate in potential service opportunities (if the center allows).

2. Find a center for abuse in your area! Send them an email and let them know your club wants to donate the goods of your desire! These can be purses, perfume, make up, and more. Further, you may ask if there is anything they may need and adapt accordingly.

3. Gather your goods! Make a signup genius or digital list to keep track of who donates what. This will make it easier to validate your club hours later. Make sure to let your members know when and where to donate as well as what the cause is for.

4. Organize and prepare your goods! Make sure the materials you gather for these women are of good quality and clean. Used purses, for example, are fine! We just want to make sure they are not very dirty or something someone wouldn’t use.

5. Write kind notes! Have all your members write encouraging letters to these women and let them know they are loved. Girls support girls!

6. Donate! Gather and send your goods off to the center, and if possible, volunteer around the center! We understand in-person volunteer services are limited, but it doesn’t hurt to offer your services.

7. Fill out the Volunteer Form! Get volunteer hours based on the pictures submitted.
