RIGHT TO GENDER-NEUTRAL RESTROOMS

Focus: LGBTQ+ Rights

This Campaign:

Create new bathroom signs in schools to demand gender-neutral restrooms.

PROBLEM:

Schools that have only sex-seperated bathrooms cause problems for transgender and gender-nonconforming students. Many avoid using these bathrooms in fear of facing verbal and physical harassment, regardless of which sex-separated bathroom they use. Feeling unsafe, uncomfortable, and at risk of illegal disciplinary action, these students might “hold it” or restrict intake of fluids, risking pain and dehydration.

SOLUTION:

This campaign impacts the problem by posting new restroom signs to demand inclusive alternatives for transgender and gender-nonconforming students. These signs can encourage school administration to implement gender-neutral bathrooms to prevent such problems from occurring.

STEPS

1. Create the new bathroom signs. a) Feel free to be creative and design them however you way you'd like as long as the format is similar. b) Have your friends and other students help create these signs!

2. Publicize! Post these bathroom signs around your school restrooms.

3. Always feel free to ask for help, suggestions, or twist these campaigns yourselves by talking to an officer from DoE on discord!

4. Fill out the Volunteer Form! Get volunteer hours based on the pictures submitted.
